Sex Offender Treatment Overview
Colorado Sex Offender Treatment Overview, C.R.S. 16-11.7-106
The Colorado Legislature created the framework for standardized evaluation, identification, treatment, management, and monitoring of Sex Offenders under Title 16, Article 11.7 of the Colorado Revised Statutes. C.R.S. 16-11.7-106 establishes and gives authority to the Sex Offender Management Board (SOMB) to make rules for the treatment of Sex Offenders. Who Is The Sex Offender Management Board In Arapahoe County?
The SOMB is a group of 25 members governing how Sex Offender treatment should be run in a standardized way. Sex Offenders in Arapahoe County are under the same treatment guidelines as those in Denver, Broomfield and Douglas County. The official Standards for treatment are published by the SOMB and can be found on the Colorado Department of Public Safety’s website.
Jefferson County Sex Offender Treatment
Sex Offender Treatment is unlike any kind of therapy a person will ever encounter in Lakewood, Golden, and Wheat Ridge, Colorado. It is a process involving three different people exercising authority over every aspect of the Sex Offender’s life. The group consists of a probation or parole officer (PO), a therapist, and a polygraph examiner (Triad). They all exercise power over the Sex Offender by threatening their freedom. The underlying assumption is that every Sex Offender will reoffend if not controlled. Once a Jefferson County Sex Offender learns how to articulate the right thinking, and believes it enough to pass a polygraph, he will be given more privileges.
Guiding Principles and Re-Indoctrination Of Sex Offenders In Denver, Colorado
The first guiding principle in Sex Offender Treatment is that there is “no cure”, and the only hope is that the deviant thoughts and actions will eventually be “managed”. Either stated or implied, Sex Offenders in Denver are told it was their best thinking that landed them in trouble, and now it’s time for someone else (the Triad) to think for them.
The re-indoctrination process (brainwashing?) involves group therapy (once a week), individual therapy, and therapeutic sessions with family members and/or approved supervisors. Periodic polygraphs are used to measure whether or not the Sex Offender in Eagle, Larimer or Adams County has REALLY changed, or if he is just manipulating authorities (the phrase if a Sex Offender does not buy into everything taught). Polygraph results are the final word on whether or not a Weld County Sex Offender is faking it. Enough failed polygraphs can mean termination from treatment and probation. Termination means a sentence to the Denver County Jail or Denver City Jail.
What Is A “Splitter” In Douglas County?
Family and friends of Sex Offenders also play a role in coercing the Sex Offender to change. A mother, father or spouse that does not say the right things to the Therapist is called a “Splitter.” Splitters are said to be working against the re-indoctrination process and are not permitted to have contact with the Sex Offender in Castle Rock and Parker. Sex Offenders with compliant families are rewarded. It should be clear by now that the government is convinced their “thinking” is the only way to think in Douglas County.
Sex Offender Treatment In Adams County Needs To Change
Sex Offender Treatment is much more than a slap on the wrist to people convicted in Adams County. In fact, it has become so punitive that it is causing more and more people to choose prison over probation. We believe our legislature needs to rethink this abusive treatment process.
