What Is A Victim’s Advocate In Denver?
District Attorney’s Offices in Denver County and across Colorado have lobbied the state legislature for money and status for employees identified as “victim’s advocates”. Generally women, these employees operate exclusively for the benefit of the prosecution. They work mainly in Sexual Assault cases and Domestic Violence cases. While we know some very good victim’s advocates, our general rule is that they are blind, ardent advocates for alleged victims.
Threats And Misrepresentations Are Common In Arapahoe County
Victim’s advocates have created an industry around women’s rights, coddling alleged victims, and encouraging women to divorce their husbands. While this sounds radical, we have heard many stories of victim’s advocates telling women they will lose their children if they don’t divorce their husbands. Subtle threats such as these are commonplace, as these “prosecutors” without the limitations of ethical rules to restrain them, coerce women into doing what is “best for them”. Never trust a victim’s advocate in Weld, Larimer or Arapahoe County. They will always push for a conviction of your loved one and encourage the destruction of families.
They are highly biased and do not operate with a woman’s needs in mind.
Jefferson County Victim’s Advocates Interfere With The Truth Finding Process
The law provides that statements made to a victim’s advocate (VA) are confidential, and that the defense cannot subpoena a VA to testify what an alleged victim told her. We see these advocates taking women into private rooms at the courthouse so defense attorneys can’t speak to them. In some cases, we see women hurried away in secret, even if they are in court under a defense subpoena. Only when they are immediately needed to testify for the defense will the advocate bring the woman out of hiding. This conduct is harmful to the spirit of a fair judicial process where both sides get to interview witnesses and prepare for trial. Yet, with the extensive lobbying done by women who earn their living from this “victim” industry, it is tolerated by judges and courts in Denver, Adams and Jefferson County.
