Child Abuse Defense Attorney

We are Denver Child Abuse lawyers, C.R.S. 18-6-401, who frequently handle such cases. The hardest part of working on these cases is the sadness seen from parents whose children have been unintentionally hurt.  Such injuries cause mothers and fathers to grieve for their kids.  Imagine a loving mother who is driving her car carefully and is in an accident after sliding on ice. Her child is injured or killed and she experiences a tremendous grief from seeing her child harmed.  Next, the government comes onto the scene and charges the mother with a felony.  That is simply wrong.

Douglas County Child Abuse – What is the Definition

Child Abuse, C.R.S. 18-6-401, in Denver, Jefferson, Adams, Arapahoe, and Douglas County can be either a misdemeanor if there is no serious injury, or a felony if serious bodily injury results.  It does not matter so much whether the conduct is done on purpose or not.

Child Abuse in Arapahoe County – Any Injury Can Result in Criminal Charges

We need to rewrite these Colorado Child Abuse laws. If a parent acts without fault, they should not be charged.  They suffer enough grief by the harm done to their loved ones.  Who is the government to come in with 20/20 hindsight and say that a parent should have acted differently. This is the government whose DA’s acted with the same degree of care for their children and no injury resulted. How is it the fault of a mother with a car full of kids that one of them opened his seatbelt and then the car door, falling out? I have seen this happen and the mother is charged with a felony. Yet she drove those kids hundreds of times just the same way and no one was hurt. She can’t control a disobedient child.

Criminal Defense Lawyer – Protecting You

Our society needs to realize that bad things often happen and trying to punish a parent who was acting reasonably is inappropriate. Yet government employees get caught up in the belief that they must punish someone, or they will look irresponsible.  I for one think they look irresponsible when they fail to realize that bad things happen in the real world, plain and simple.
