Charged With A Crime? It Doesn’t Mean You’re Guilty.

Juvenile Boy In Burlington Sentenced to Seven Years in Deaths

On Behalf of | Oct 13, 2011 | Homicide |

A Juvenile boy in Burlington, Colorado, was sentenced to seven years in the Homicide shooting of his parents.  He will be housed in a youth corrections facility for killing his Mother and Father and shooting two of his siblings. According to the Denver Post, the boy’s criminal attorney was able to negotiate with the District Attorney’s Office in Kit Carson County to make sure that the child would have a chance to succeed as an adult in the years to come.

An attorney should know how a specific Kit Carson or Denver DA handles cases similar to your own, how the police in Jefferson County usually fail to perform a specific routine inspection, or that the Judge in Douglas County will like to hear a specific type of argument. When a lawyer knows how to capitalize on the different roles and priorities of the government in a specific county, city, or town in Colorado, he can help his clients receive the best possible outcome, whether it be homicide or an assault case.

Sometimes people wonder how is justice served when a person can kill two adults, shoot several other people, and only get seven years in ‘jail’? The answer is quite complex. The first thing to understand is that the goal of the juvenile justice system in Denver, Aurora, Castle Rock, and throughout Colorado is to rehabilitate juveniles and not burden them for life with criminal convictions. This is where a good juvenile criminal defense attorney is beneficial.

When children commit crimes in Colorado the goal of the legal system is to rehabilitate them for adulthood. In other words, through a good criminal lawyer, the district attorneys in Denver will sometimes lessen the amount of sentencing they would like to see a youth receive. In this case, the district attorney for Burlington, Colorado decided that this child could potentially be rehabilitated and wanted to try and let the boy start adulthood without being confined in jail for many more years.
