Home Grow Plant Limits in Colorado

While local laws within certain counties or cities may differ, Colorado’s law for growing recreational marijuana limits the amount of plants to 12 in each residence. Additionally, the growing must occur in an enclosed, locked location not in public view. Even if your backyard is fenced, it is unlawful to simply plant weed in your garden.

Those who grow and have anyone under 21 living with them must also restrict the growing space from the minor(s) by lock. Even if there isn’t a minor living in the residence, the space where the marijuana is grown must also be inaccessible to anyone 20 and under who might visit.

Marijuana Possession Limits in Colorado

CRS 18-18-406 is the criminal code that addresses crimes relating to marijuana and marijuana concentrate. Possession limits for personal use are no more than once ounce. It is legal to gift or give up to one ounce of marijuana to someone 21 or older, but selling the drug can only be done by those licensed to do so. An application, inspection, testing, fees, and several other steps are required to lawfully sell marijuana in Colorado.
