Charged With A Crime? It Doesn’t Mean You’re Guilty.

Internet Sexual Exploitation across Colorado – C.R.S. 18-6-405.4

On Behalf of | Jan 19, 2015 | Internet Sexual Exploitation of a Child |

The State of Colorado places strict limits on communication with kids regarding sexual matters.  A person commits Internet Sexual Exploitation, C.R.S. 18-6-405.4, in Jefferson or Arapahoe County when he or she knowingly entices someone under the age of 15, and at least 4 years younger than himself, to engage in sexual activity over a computer, telephone, or other electronic devices.

Societal Changes Fuel This Relatively New Crime

In Denver and across America we are bombarded with sexualized messages which bump up against social standards. After all, we are sexual creatures and an imaginative species. Human beings will always find new ways to use whatever means possible to exploit sex or to explore ways to become sexually aroused. Younger people are especially vulnerable when they see movies, billboards, and internet messages that encourage using manipulative sexual behavior that gets the guy or girl of their dreams. This has resulted in the a skyrocketing number of people being charged with crimes like, Internet Sexual Exploitation, as we deal with a generation that believes, if I can’t have the partner I want in real life, I can always get it online.

We created a huge problem, so we elect politicians to pass tough laws to counteract the situation. Now we expect Douglas County Sheriffs and judges in Adams County to enforce the new laws and impose extreme penalties upon those who seemingly violate our standards. If this sounds too strong, I doubt you have a child who has acted out and has been caught yet. But for those who have, I’m sure the statement does not sound strong enough.

A Good Criminal Lawyer Will Design and Present Your Defense for the Jury

If you or someone you care about has been charged with Internet Sexual Exploitation involving a Child, it is very important for you to find an attorney who will fight for you and present your side of the story in an organized manner to support your defense.  Juries are rationale people who will believe your version of what occurred if it is well presented. At the O’Malley Law Office, P.C., we also understand the many ways good people can be wrongly accused of Internet Sexual Exploitation from Logan to La Plata County.

We talk with many clients who are tempted into trying to defend themselves by talking to the police. I have never known this to be helpful. If you are charged with Internet Sexual Exploitation, or if you think you are under investigation, be smart, exercise your right to remain silent, and call us at 303-731-0719. Together we can protect your future.
