Denver Driver Caused Injury - Hit and Run, C.R.S. 42-4-1601

The Denver police are looking for a driver who allegedly hit a pedestrian crossing Federal Boulevard. The person was also hit by two other cars. Of the three drivers who hit the pedestrian, the Subaru driver was the only one to Leave the Scene of the Accident (Hit and Run, C.R.S. 42-4-1601). Witnesses to the accident were unable to describe the color or license plate of the vehicle, which in Colorado means the police are searching for a Subaru-shaped needle in a haystack.

The Colorado law regarding Hit and Run accidents (or Leaving the Scene of an Accident) involving injury recently became more stringent, and those who are accused of such crimes now face possible felony penalties upon conviction in jurisdictions like Douglas, Broomfield, and Adams County. If the accident results in "serious bodily injury" a person can be charged with a class 4 felony, and if it results in death, a person can be charged with a class 3 felony. Any conviction for a Hit and Run will assess 12 points against a person's driver's license, and therefore suspend a person's privilege to drive for a year.

Although the pedestrian hit in this accident has not died, he sustained serious bodily injuries. Therefore, if the Denver police can find the driver who hit and run, he would be charged with a class 4 felony and would facing up to 6 years in prison. It is always best to never leave the scene of an accident in Jefferson, Arapahoe or Larimer County. While it is understandable to feel fear in such circumstance, the penalties you face by leaving an accident increase exponentially.

If you are a suspect in a Hit and Run accident and are being investigated by the Aurora, Centennial, or Westminster police, do not speak to police without a lawyer present. If the police are going to charge you with a crime, you don't need to make their job any easier for them.
