Biography
Meet Colorado Criminal Defense Attorney Britany Schaffer
I have been practicing criminal defense for the past six years in New Mexico state and federal courts. My practice developed into primarily federal criminal cases, and a strong emphasis in challenging Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth Amendment issues in state cases. I've been living in Colorado for the past three years, but traveling to and from New Mexico.
Britany's Prior Experience in the Legal Field
Prior to diving into criminal defense, I was a law clerk for two federal magistrate judges where I researched and analyzed a breadth of legal issues, primarily for prisoners' claims under habeas corpus. I have also had my own practice focusing on victim's rights, and worked for a medium-sized civil defense firm in construction, employment, business, and malpractice cases.
Britany's Education and Passions
I graduated magna cum laude from the University of New Mexico in 2015, and was awarded with the National Association of Women Lawyers' Award. I graduated summa cum laude from Fort Lewis College in 2011, earning a B.A. in Political Science with a minor in Gender/Women's Studies.
I'm passionate about civil and human rights, and have been devoted to that focus in the realm of criminal defense. Outside of my career, I'm the loving owner of two big, beautiful dogs, and enjoy hiking, running, biking, and attending musical events.
