Allegations of soliciting for prostitution in Aurora, Colorado often stem from offering money for sex. However, even arranging or giving details about a place where prostitution is practiced can lead to criminal charges as well. Police stings aren’t uncommon when it comes to solicitation. Responding to online advertisements for massages or sex acts can lead to trouble. We’ve also represented clients who approached an undercover officer inquiring about the exchange of money for sex. If you’re facing allegations of soliciting for prostitution, the time to form a strong defense is now.

Arapahoe County Soliciting for Prostitution Law

Arapahoe County’s prostitution laws prohibit certain acts of sex trade. CRS 18-7-202 addresses the specific violations in Aurora, Centennial, and Englewood:

  • “a person commits soliciting for prostitution if he:
  • solicits another for the purpose of prostitution,
  • arranges or offers to arrange a meeting of persons for the purpose of prostitution,
  • or directs another to a place knowing such direction is for the purpose of prostitution.”

Prostitution crimes become more serious if the other person accepts the offer, sexual acts occur, or someone enters a place of prostitution intending to have sex there. Patronizing a prostitute and prostitution charges can result in these situations.

Is Soliciting for Prostitution Always a Misdemeanor in Colorado?

Each prostitute solicitation case is different. Therefore, the ramifications are as well. Many cases of soliciting a prostitute are class 3 misdemeanors in Colorado. A conviction can result in:

  • up to 6 months in county jail,
  • fines of $50 – $750

Some defendants face an additional fine of up to $5K that goes toward the prostitution enforcement cash fund. This crime becomes a felony if the person a defendant solicits for sex is under the age of 18.
