Internet Luring of a Child - a Colorado World Wide Problem

Did you know that police in Colorado trick men from around the world into coming to Colorado for sex with children? Be on the alert, particularly in internet chat rooms. Police will engage in conversations with men, pretending to be a child (under 15) who openly discusses sex. The idea is to lead men into conversations where there is a description of "explicit sexual conduct", an invitation to meet for any purpose (nonsexual or sexual), and the man is at least four years older than the child. This combination is lethal and will result in Internet Luring of a Child, C.R.S. 18-3-306, charges, a Colorado class five or class four felony.

The reach of the internet is world wide, and so communications across the globe are easily within the reach of local police in Adams, Arapahoe and Broomfield County. If the man does not agree to actually come to the meeting, it makes no difference. All the man has to do is to invite a fourteen year old to come and see him. Then, local police will get a warrant from a Colorado judge for Internet Luring of a Child. Once the warrant is active, police in the man's home state can arrest him - even though he has never set foot in Colorado.

Police in Douglas and Denver County have a huge pond to fish in. Provided they are patient, someone will let their guard down and engage in a sexual conversation with a "child" (actually a police officer pretending to be a child). Many men we've represented say they were not paying attention when the officer mentioned he was fourteen years old. Colorado Police are comfortable extraditing men from all over the United States. Jefferson County law enforcement officers are particularly proud of this effort.

Men need to guard themselves more carefully and not talk on-line or by phone with anyone who says they are a child. Chances are, the person on the other end of the conversation is a cop ready to charge them for Internet Luring of a Child and make them a sex offender for life. The Sex offender label will required Colorado's SOMB (Sex Offender Management Board) treatment, SOISP (Sex Offender Intensive Supervised Probation), and restrictions which are virtually impossible to obey. Just imagine someone telling you where you can work, where you can live, who you can live with, and who you can talk to.
