The Douglas County Jail / Detention Facility permits bail / bonds to be posted in the form of surety, or cash bonds. Surety bonds are used when the defendant or the person bonding the individual does not have enough of their own money to post the amount. A fee between 10 to 15% of the bond amount is usually charged for the use the bonding agent's money. Sometimes, with the approval of the court, a personal recognizance bond is permitted. Only cash bonds are returned to those posting a bond, and only if the inmate appears at all court appearances. Don't use a bondsman if you have the full cash bond.

Inmate Visitation at the Douglas County Jail

Inmates at the detention facility are allowed non-contact visitation. Video visitation can be done through the Robert A. Christensen Justice Center, located at 4000 Justice Way in Castle Rock, CO 80109, or at the Highlands Ranch Substation located at 9250 Zotos Drive, Highlands Ranch, CO 80126. If you want to have an inmate visit, you must first register and obtain a visitor ID number. You may make arrangements by visiting the jail's Automated Inmate Visitation System on the web or by calling 303-814-8045. A registered visitor may bring two others with them to the visitation, but each person must be listed in the scheduled visit along with their dates of birth. Be sure and bring your driver's license or other government identification to your visit. Visits must be scheduled 24 hours prior to arrival. The number of visitations per week and the duration of each visit is based on the classification status of the inmate.

Depending on the inmate classification, visits may either be 15 minutes or 30 minutes long, and are over a video / TV with a phone handset at each end. All visits are recorded and used to prosecute the inmate. So, don't speak about the inmate's case at all. You cannot bring a cell phone or any electronics into the visitation booth.

Douglas County Work Release Program

The Douglas County Jail and Detention Facility has a work release (also called Alternative Sentencing) program for offenders approved by the court and jail. Work release participants must pay a daily rate ranging from $15.00 - $80.00, depending upon annual gross income. All work release inmates must also pay a $75.00 GPS tracking activation fee (one-time), and adhere to the strict rules of the program. It is important to understand that when work release is granted by the court, an inmate is considered incarcerated. If an inmate does not return to the detention facility at their designated time, he or she may be considered as an escapee. Participants in the Douglas County Work Release program must have proof of employment, acceptable criminal history, and no outstanding warrants. The jail decides whether to grant work release in the end, not the judge.
